LEAGUE
FORMAT
The BCL is conducted throughout the summer and runs from the end of May through the second week in August. The regular season has six matches which includes three home matches and three away. Matches are held on Saturday afternoons.
All matches are conducted using the “match play” format. Match play is a fun way to compete against other players compared to the stroke play format which is utilized for most recreational rounds and junior tournaments. The most well-known match play competitions are the Ryder Cup, President Cup, and Solheim Cup played by the world’s best male and female professionals.
In match play, each player will play their opponent on a hole-by-hole basis with the winner of each hole recording a point. For match scoring purposes, the winner of the front nine, back nine, and overall will be awarded one point for each of the front, back and overall, respectively.
In addition, each foursome will also play a team 4-ball match against their opponents. Like the head-to-head match, the 4-ball team will also compete for a point on the front nine, back nine and overall, respectively. Accordingly, each foursome will compete for nine total points between the individual and team best ball matches.
In total, there are eight players (four foursomes) who make up the scoring matches comprising eight individual matches and four 4-ball matches. Accordingly, there are 36 points up for grabs in each team match and the winning team will be the one who scores 18.5 points or more.
The top eight teams based on won/loss record and average number of points scored throughout the regular season qualify for the playoffs. The quarter and semi-finals are scheduled during the first weekend of August. The winners of the semi-final matches meet in the 36-hole championship final which is held the following weekend.
