Our
Story
How We Started
The Bay Cities League (“BCL”) was founded in 1967 by a small group of golf members from several Bay Area Golf Clubs who envisioned a way to help grow the game of golf by getting their kids enthusiastic about taking up the game.
The idea was to start a league where participating clubs would form a junior travel team which would compete against other junior travel teams from many of the most iconic golf clubs in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The concept was implemented by forming the BCL as a tax-exempt social organization which provided the overall organization for the league. The guiding mission was to provide young men, women, and juniors a unique opportunity to be part of a traveling golf team, compete against teams from many of the best private clubs, improve their games, as well as learn proper golf etiquette, sportsmanship, and important life skills.

HOW ITS GOING
Almost 60 years later, the league has been an enormous success with over twenty teams participating in the league every summer. The guiding mission continues to this day with most of our former participants becoming lifelong golf enthusiasts and many have become golf members at their own clubs, pursued careers in the golf industry and even a few who have made it to the PGA and LPGA tours!
Perhaps most importantly are the lifelong friendships that have flourished though participation in the BCL. It is our goal that the BCL will continue to provide opportunities for to play, compete, make friends, and enjoy the game for decades to come!
